I don't remember much...But I know something about dirt under fingernails. And I know something about the smell of onions and butter on your breath. I know love looks like a locked door on a Chevy Nova. I know potatoes stay cool under the surface of the earth. I don't remember much...I know about commitment and what a young man can do. I know there is something about shoes kept nice and clean. And I know about looking up, looking up, looking up. I know mistakes can take a toll that cannot be undone. I don't remember much...I know you loved your family even though it could be hard. I know you were proud of me before I'd done anything at all. I know good things can disappear too soon. And I know sitting side by side can mean more than anything. I don't remember much...And I know sitting side by side can mean more than anything.

Some things never change. Some things they just get strange. Do you remember when we used to be on the same page? Have you been wandering around? Did you put your hands to the plow? Do you wonder how we got where we are now? Sometimes we just stay when we know we should go away. We know we’re not living in yesterday. Now it’s a different time. It’s not the same old place. There’s a place inside that we share the same space. Who would I be without the kids? Who would I be without the kids I used to know? Who would I be without the kids? I couldn’t have known where we’d end up today. But I know when I don’t know what to say. I couldn’t have known who we’d turn out to be. But I know without you I wouldn’t be me. Who would I be without the kids? Who would I be without the kids I used to know? Who would I be without the kids?

Buzzing and biting. Something about this lighting.Take me away from this place. Thunder and lightning. The voice in my head is frightening. Getting into to new headspace. Leave the lights on I’ll be home. Leave the lights on I’m coming home. Running and writing. Don’t know what we’re fighting. I don’t think I like it here today. Something inviting. Sit down, my stomach is tightening. There’s gotta be a better way. Leave the lights on I’ll be home. Leave the lights on I’m coming home. Who do you think you are kidding? There’s nothing left to see here. Who do you think you are kidding? There’s nothing left for you but fear. Leave the lights on I’ll be home. Leave the lights on I’m coming home.

Demo Tape 02:26
Heard you were gone but it was already too late. Lost track of you just like those songs we used to play. All I have left of you is this dusty demo tape. We took time to lay down those silly dreams we made. Glad we took time to lay down those silly dreams we made. I missed the day for which my black suit was made. Half and hour for half a lifetime of tributes paid. Bet there was a lot to say when silence filled the room. But it’s times like these that we know that words they just won’t do. Yes, it’s times like these that we know that words they just won’t do. You’re already gone but its not too late to see. That your story made a mark on my reality. All I have left of you is this dusty demo tape. Thanks for the memories and everything you gave. Thanks for the memories and everything you gave. I’m sorry that I missed your big day. I’m sorry that I missed your big day.

Remember when we hoped for something bigger than before. Our voices filled the sky calling out for so much more. We talked and talked about the future, we ran out of words. Did we miss the moment? Trade-in “now” to chase the birds? Spent our days reaching out for something in the air. Did we make the most of what we had right there? Staring into the night sky behind your Grandma’s place. Our dreams reaching out to us through time and space. We can talk and talk and talk about the ways that we have changed. But the moments that made us make us very single day. Spent our days reaching out for something in the air. Did we make the most of what we had right there?
